The Great Steel Fleet Pack 3
Welcome to the current last pack of the 4-6-4 Hudsons! The J3A’s. These locomotives come with a slight boost of tractive effort over the J1’s, but lower than the J2’s. The J3’s had some more modern innovations for coming out about 10 years later than the J1 such as example – new roller bearings leading to less time in the shop with heavy repairs over time.
You will need my J1 Hudson pack as this is a dependency mod
What’s in the box?
J3A with different applications of piping.
Additional Tenders
PT-3/4
PT-2
PT-1 with an A and B variation.
The reason I have variations on this model is due to different photos I could find that show the PT-1 to have some different dimensions.

Trying my hand at balancing. I took what the game set cost would be, and looked between the availability, speed, and power, of this and other locomotives. You will find that smaller tender engines have a lower purchase cost, but higher running cost. Larger tender engines will have a higher purchase cost, but less running cost. This simulates the idea of refueling.
What is next?
Well, now that all the Hudsons have been released, I’m going to take a short-lived break and play some games. From here I’m going to go back and create the streamlined versions of the Hudson, the Dryfuss, Empire State Express, and the Commodore Vanderbilt. Beyond additional Hudsons, I plan on going back to the earlier 1900s and hammering out the NYC Heavy Atlantic engine. An NYC Pacific engine, and maybe revisit the Hudson model to shorten it and create the K5B Pacific. Who knows. This is all a bit far in the future, but look forward to my next project. Thanks again to Meatballhero for the constant assistance, and the ability to reuse some parts from the Berkshires. Hope you enjoy these engines as much as I do!
