Škoda 121 43E (Kostitřas)
At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, it turned out that the concept of the universal electrical locomotive, designed for the operation of fasting, personal and freight trains at the time already existing rows of 140 and 141 (according to today’s marking, then E 499.0 and E 499.1). . These locomotives have proven more suitable for pulling quick and passenger trains, as their transfer to allow a maximum speed of 120 km/h does not allow sufficient towing power for heavier freight trains. Therefore, the locomotive E 499.157 was equipped with a transfer for a maximum speed of 90 km / h to increase the towing force. After an experience with this machine, a new line designated as E 469.1, thus today 121, which is largely identical to the former 141, was developed and produced.
