They were designed by Otto Kuhler and had sister units, K5’s streamlined in the John Wilkes scheme, which ran in northern PA.
Lehigh Valley was famous for shipping coal, which helped initiate the name “Black Diamond” which ran from NYC to Buffalo, NY through the New York and Pennsylvania mountains.
