The class 23 was designed by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a model but was not built in series due to the war. From 1950 they were realized at Deutsche Bundesbahn as a new construction series. Class 23 of Deutsche Bundesbahn was intended for the service of passenger and express trains with wheel arrangement 1’C1 ‘. As a result of the change in traction, the locomotives were retired until 1975.
