This was the flagship express train of the East Japan Railway Company, which was created by the split privatisation of Japan National Railways (JNR), and was introduced in the early years of the company.
As the catchphrase “the awesome guy with the tuxedo body” suggests, its interior and exterior and performance are outstanding.
The elegant white and grey coloured bodywork, with large, deep seats, and boasts a maximum operating speed of 130 km/h and a maximum design speed of 160 km/h.
Initially operated on the Super Hitachi limited express trains, they are currently used on the Kusatsu limited express trains, among others.
