The Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad, known famously as the “Rock Island Line” was an extensive railroad, reaching as far north as Minnesota, and as far south as Galveston. The railroad was known for very brightly decorated diesel locomotives, a tradition reflected in the earlier liveries depicted in this reskins.
These locomotives were assigned the railroad’s many inter-city routes from their construction in 1950, and were later delegated to commuter service in the 1970s after Amtrak took over national rail travel. They went through several different paint jobs over the years, with quite a strong variety. Some locomotives adorned a flashy livery that labeled them “The Rocket”, while others had less detail. Eventually, the livery was standardized and simplified in the 1970s.
This pack includes nine repaints of themeatballhero’s fantastic E8 locomotives, two E8 locomotives sporting “The Rocket” livery, one with a more generic 1950s livery, two with a more simple livery from the 1960s, one with a wing-like front detail, and three depicting the standard livery seen on commuter trains of the 1970s. Locomotives from 1970 are reversible, to enable commuter train use.
