Japan Government Railway 2-8-2 Class D52, 2-8-4 Class D62 Steam Locomotive
Brief history of Steam Locomotives Class D52, D62
This steam locomotive had the most powerful boiler, used for heavy freight.
This was needed for the transportation of excess freight in wartime, at the locomotive’s launch.
It was planned to use this locomotive, more powerful than class D51 for more freight transportation, the most of them could not do their original performance because of poor building skills.
They were restored after war, and supported transportation by their high power.
And some excess locomotives were converted to class C62, for passenger use, and became the most powerful locomotive for passengers.
On the other hand, class D62 was born for use in low-class lines by adding the following trailer, the same as class D60 and D61.
Some of them were preserved.
