The D51 class steam locomotive is a tender type steam locomotive for freight transportation manufactured by the Ministry of Railways, and is the most manufactured locomotive in Japan, due to mass production during the war.
D51 96 is classified as an early type and has the nickname “slug” because of the feedwater heater placed between the sand box and chimney on the boiler in the direction of the rails and the shape of the cover that covers it.
