JNR Series 80 “Shonan type” Mod
JNR Series 80 “Shonan type” Mod
JNR Series 80 is the first EMU trains designed for long-distance operation in Japan. This type had broken the stereotype that EMU is suitable only for short distances, and became the cornerstone leading to the Shinkansen and later “EMU paradise” in Japan. The name “Shonan type” is derived from the name of the area where it first operated.
