Northern Italy / Po River Valley (Nord Italia / Pianura Padana)
From the Alps to the Adriatic, the Po River Valley has been the agricultural and industrial center of Northern Italy for millenia. This hand-sculpted and hand-painted map attempts to capture the beauty and challenge of this historic region the Ancient Romans referred to as Cisalpine Gaul.
On this map, the Po is navigable from the Adriatic to Turin, with several navigable tributaries (Ticino, Adda, Oglio, Mincio, and Adige) and Alpine lakes (Maggiore, Lugano, Como, d’Iseo, and Garda). For additional challenge, cross the Appenines to Tuscany and Liguria, or cross the Alps to Switzerland.
