NS Plan U
NS Plan U
Plan U was a type of three-part diesel-electric train set of the Dutch Railways. Plan U was intended to expand the train service on the diesel track sections and in the second instance to replace the diesel three Mat ’34 from 1934. In addition to the Plan X diesel train sets purchased in 1953-1954, train sets with a larger capacity were needed for the somewhat busier non-electrified railway lines. The trains were mainly driven on the busier diesel lines. A large part of these lines is therefore electrified during the career of the equipment. The first train sets were used in 1960 between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen. The Plan U equipment has driven here until the electrification in 1992. After more train sets were completed, they were also deployed on the Nijmegen-Roermond, Arnhem – Winterswijk railways and between Zwolle and Emmen. On the latter line, the equipment continued to run until electrification in 1987. On the other two routes, Plan U postponed it for another ten years longer, until the arrival of the new Diesel equipment ’90. Between the early sixties and the arrival of the new Wadlopers in the early eighties, the trains also drove between Groningen and Leeuwarden. To replace and reinforce the old DE-5 train sets, Plan U set between 1967 and 1974 on the route Amsterdam – Hoorn – Enkhuizen. That year, this route was also electrified, and the released train sets were able to redeem the last diesel five.
The mod is based on the NS Mat ’64 by oppiecc, it includes 2 liveries, The Red devil (1960), NS huisstijl (1968).
