NS SM’90 Railhopper) Mod
The Stop Train Equipment ’90 (SM ’90), officially nicknamed Railhopper, was a series of electric railcars of the Dutch Railways, which were built in 1992-93 and were in service from 1994 to 2005.
During the design process in 1988, the introduction of the OV student card announced. Due to the potential high growth in the number of travelers, it was necessary that new equipment was delivered quickly.
Because the design for the Railhopper was not on the drawing board, it was decided to purchase a well-known concept: double-decker cars with a locomotive series 1700 in pull-push formation as DD-AR equipment.
Maintenance and deployment of small, deviating trainsets are relatively expensive. That is why, with the end of the 2005 timetable, NS Passengers put the trainsets SM ’90 out of service.
