SNCB HLE / SERIE 18
SNCB HLE / SERIE 18
SERIE 18 was a small group of 6 polycurrent engines built by Alsthom between 1973 and 1974. Derivated from the French 40100 series, they were meant to be used under 4 different currents between Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. They are the ancestor of contemporary High-Speed train networks all over Western Europe, mainly driven by TGV variants nowadays, which pushed them towards retirement earlier. Very complexes, their huge electric powered engines allow fast and heavy commercial services up to 180 km/h.
