It is a stainless steel commuter train that debuted in 2002. It boasts one of the largest fleets in the Tokyu Railway system. Furthermore, it shares a common design with the JR East E231 series and was introduced on the Den-en-toshi Line, Toyoko Line, and Meguro Line. There are also derivative models such as the Minatomirai Line Y500 series.
