Class 44/45/46 Combo Pack (9 locos) Mod
Class 44/45/46 Combo Pack (9 locos) Mod
This mod pack is a package of my three separate reskin mods of the “Peak” locomotive. The mod provides one selection for the Peak loco 44/45/46 and then nine variations therein, three of each. Lights added by friend Stiltman and he pulled the 3 packs into one.
With kind permission of PlainSimple, I offer here three versions of his Peak loco. These are Reskins – no changes to model or stats
These 3 classes were all externally similar but were fitted with different engines and transmissions, with slight power improvement in the 45 and 46. They were known as ‘Peaks’ because the original class 44s were named after various British mountains.
Technical Info
Class 44
Manufacture started in 1959, these were some of the first big diesels commissioned for the British Rail modernization project and were the precursors to the Class 45 and Class 46 locomotives of similar design. Equipped with Sultzer engine 12LDA28-A.
Class 45
Upgraded Sultzer engine 12LDA28 type A to B. Main traction on the Midland Main Line from 1962, their introduction allowed considerable acceleration of the previous steam-powered service. The Class 45s remained the main source of power on the Midland Main Line up to 1982, when they were relegated to secondary services following introduction of HSTs on the route. From 1986 they virtually disappeared
Class 46
The Class 46 design was structurally the same as the preceding Class 45 build, and had the same Sulzer engine, but differed in the fitment of a Brush generator and traction motors, in place of the Crompton Parkinson.
