Series E5/H5 Train
The E5/H5 Series started commercial operation in 2011 as the successor to the 200 & E2 Series for the Tohoku Shinkansen to speed up the service. It was also the first type to be coupled with a Granclass car. When the Hokkaido Shinkansen started service in 2016, the H5 series, with almost identical performance, appeared, showing differences inline colors, emblems, and other interior features. In addition to the re-expedited “Hayabusa” express, it is also operated as the “Yamabiko”, “Nasuno”, and “Hayate” express.

Series E6 train
The E6 Series began commercial operation in 2013 as a “mini-shinkansen” in conjunction with the E5 Series, replacing all the older E3 Series trains by 2014. In addition to the Akita Shinkansen’s direct service “Komachi”, it also operates “Hayabusa”, “Yamabiko”, and “Nasuno” trains turning south of Morioka.
