Breif history of Steam Locomotives A4 Series: Class 120, 130, 140
These locomotives were built in 1873 by Robert Stephenson & Co. In Japan, locomotives from this company were rare.
Arrived at Japan in 1874, locate for Kobe region. Later, in about 1884, moved to Tokyo region, but transfered to local private railways until 1915.
After transfered, these were transfered again to another, or nationalized again because of privates’ nationalization.
Specially No.123, the model of this mod, finally moved to Kaya-Railway. For starting Kaya-Railway in 1926, No.123 was invited to this railway.
Though worked for long years, retired in 1956. Though Kaya-Railway was abolished after years, this locomotive is being saved with care.
Class 130 and 140 were the same type made by Sharp, Stewart Co., so they were collectively called class A4.
They were later renamed by a different name for their histories.
