Brief history of Steam Locomotives class C51
Based on imported 4 locomotives, class 18900, later class C51 was developed in 1919.
The name 18900 seems to mean ‘follower of class 8900’.
Arranged the technology of American and German to Japanese style, and developed as well-fitting in Japan,
they were made 289 cars and used all in Japan.
Also their design was excellent that later many other classes were based on this locomotive.
Because of early retire, they are preserved only 4 cars, but 2 of them are in museum and we can see easily.
