JR-East E231 series EMU family sound MOD

JR-East E231 series EMU family sound MOD

Sound upgrade MOD for JNR 231 series EMU MODs. Traction sounds, and door opening/closing sounds will be added. This also applies to the 209 series, on which the Series E231 was based, and to the Sotetsu 10000 series that use the E231 series design.

The E231 series uses VVVF control with IGBT elements, and was mass-produced with Mitsubishi-made commuter types and Hitachi-made suburban types. Since the 2010s, the sound has been changed to be similar to that of the E233 series through refurbishment work. The “ghost inverter” of JR’s E231-0 series can no longer be heard after 2020 (it can still be heard on the E231-800 and Sotetsu 10000 series).

The sound of E231 Series by hot_bag is applied only to the modified version by MaxC, and NOT to the original by hot_bag. If you use only Gombe’s E231-500 series and/or YOMITI’s Sotetsu 10000 Series, just install this mod, and it will work.

This sound mod applies to the use of some (or all) of the following mods, including the Sotetsu Series 10000, which was designed to be nearly identical to the E231 Series. Updated on May 14 to directly support E231-0 series Yokosuka color and E231-500 series.

Update 6/22/2022: Added GTO-VVVF sound for the Gombe’s 209-500 series. We need to sort this sound mod in the order of loading it to the back of the list.

JR East E231 Series (by hot_bag) and the Fix Mod (by MaxC).
E231-0 series Yokosuka livery (original by hot_bag, repainted by kijioijin)
E231-500 series (by Gombe)
E231-0 and 209-500 series (by Gombe)
Sotetsu 10000 Series (by YOMITI)

E231-0 series Joban Line and Chuo/Sobu Line have the original Mitsubishi sound (known as “ghost inverter”), E231-1000 Series has the original Hitachi sound (known as “falling inverter”), and E231-900 series Musashino Line and E231-3000 series Hachiko Line have the refurbished Mitsubishi sound. Sotetsu 10000 Series also has the original Mitsubishi sound.

The power cars of the E231 series have 4 MT73 motors rated at 95 kW per car, but are assumed to produce the equivalent of 150 kW, allowing for overloads. Power per car is increased to 600 kW (150 kW x 4), and tractive effort is reduced to 30 kN. For the E231 series MaxC’s fix, reused MDL files from that one. For Sotetsu 10000 series by YOMITI, set config in the mod.lua on this sound MOD.

Officially original 95×4=380 kW per motor car, I tuned it 150×4=600 kW
2x motor cars: 1,200 kW (officially original: 760 kW)
4x motor cars: 2,400 kW (officially original: 1,520 kW)
6x motor cars: 3,600 kW (officially original: 2,280 kW)
