Karosa LC735/LC736 Serie

Karosa LC735/LC736 Serie

The LC 735 buses are conceptually based on the Karosa C 734 intercity bus, which became the basic model of the 700 body series. The LC 735 is a two-axle bus with a semi-self-supporting body of panel construction and an engine located behind the rear axle. There are two hinged doors on the right side. The first (in front of the front axle) is double-winged, and the rear (behind the rear axle) is single-winged and mostly serves only as an emergency exit. Comfortable reclining seats for passengers, arranged 2+2 with a middle aisle, are located on a raised platform, and thanks to this, the luggage compartment between the axles has a volume of 5 m³. Shelves with carry-on nets are attached above the seats (as opposed to the LC 736 type, which has fixed-bottom shelves and additional air supplied over each seat). A folding seat for the tour guide is often located in the front door area.
The first LC 735 bus was produced as early as 1977, but it was only a functional sample, internally marked LC1. This car was characterized by its double doors behind the rear axle. In 1982, two LC 735 cars were produced, one for testing, and the other for the Office of the Prime Minister of the Czechoslovak Republic. Serial production started in 1983 and lasted until 1991 when their production was stopped mainly due to the demand for higher comfort for passengers, which was related to socio-economic changes at the end of the 1980s. LC 735 and LC 736 cars began to be switched from international connections and tours to domestic long-distance lines. The LC 735 model was replaced by the C 735 type after the end of production, which was better suited with its second door. A total of 6,519 LC 735 buses were produced between 1977–1991.

The LC 736 is structurally almost identical to the LC 735. It is a two-axle bus with a semi-self-supporting body of panel construction and an engine located behind the rear axle. There are two hinged doors on the right side. The first is double-winged and located in front of the front axle, the second is single-winged and located behind the rear axle. Unlike the LC 735 type, these rear doors are sometimes only emergency doors, i.e. there are no steps and the door is high from the floor of the car to the ceiling. The adjustable passenger seats are arranged 2+2 on higher platforms, which made it possible to increase the volume of the luggage compartment, located between the axles, from 3.5 m³ (Karosa C 734) to 5.3 m³ (LC 736). There are shelves with fixed bottoms for luggage above the seats (the LC 735 has mesh shelves) as well as the fresh air distribution, which each passenger can control individually (the LC 735 does not have this distribution). Tour buses also often have a folding guide seat installed in the front door area.
