Odakyu KiHa5000 DMU
Odakyu KiHa5000 DMU
The Odakyu Electric Railway Type Kiha5000 diesel railcar was introduced in 1955. Odakyu Electric Railway introduced this diesel car to provide direct service to the Gotemba Line of Japan National Railways, which was non-electrified at the time, even though it was an electric railroad. In addition, the train was equipped with a 2-engine system, which was the only prototype in Japan at the time, because of the steep gradients on the Gotemba Line, and could provide twice the power output of existing diesel trains. However, when the Gotemba Line was electrified in 1968, the Romance Car SE was used for direct service, and this car, which was no longer needed, was transferred to Kanto Railway Company.
