SAGAMI RAILWAY 6000 series
SAGAMI RAILWAY 6000 series
The Series 5000 introduced in 1955 was an ambitious project that incorporated the latest technology of the time, but
However, Sagami Railway still has a lot of vehicles that were converted from the old Japan National Railways’ disposed cars.
The rapid economic growth after the Korean War led to rapid development along the railway line, and the 18-meter car body was not able to handle the transportation capacity.
The 18-meter car bodies had difficulty in carrying capacity.
Later, intermediate cars were incorporated and operated in 4-car trains, but because of the front design, through doors could not be installed and the cars could not pass through, which was inconvenient.
However, due to the design of the front, through doors could not be installed and the cars could not pass through, which was inconvenient.
Therefore, it was decided to manufacture cars with 20-meter bodies, and 120 Series 6000 cars were built from 1961 to 1970.
This was the second largest production volume after the 130 cars of the Sotetsu Series 8000, and was the face of Sotetsu at that time.
The large 20-meter-long car body, four double doors on each side, and a through the door in the center of the lead car were designed to allow passengers to pass through even when the car was installed in the middle of the train.
The through doors are located in the center of the lead car.
