Water Textures Tropical Mod
Water Textures Tropical Mod
Here you can find terrain textures from the workshop entry Terrain textures for natural water surfaces. They are now split up because too many can stall the game.
Problem with too many terrain textures
Terrain textures probably occupy a relatively large amount of video RAM (graphics memory) due to their large basic textures 4096×4096 px. The case also occurs when they are not actively used (that is, even when they are not applied to the floor). Due to the full graphics memory, the RAM is accessed directly. This massively affects the performance of the game and it is no longer playable.
It is not clear to me at the moment whether terrain textures without basic mod textures (only with original game textures) also cause the problem.
Possible solutions
If you are not affected by the performance problems described above, you do not have to do anything yet! In the future, when activating and using mods with terrain textures, consider that they can cause performance problems.
The simplest solution is to completely do without a terrain texture modification (with mod’s own basic textures).
It can also help to completely delete terrain textures that are not urgently needed from a mod. However, this solution is not permanently recommended. If you can imagine that anyway, you will usually find the configuration files for the terrain textures under the following path and can delete them:
[…] / Steam / steamapps / workshop / content / [workshop entry number] / res / config / terrain_material / shared.
As a further solution, I now offer the water terrain textures divided by colors. If you want to use them, you can simply select the colors you need for each savegame. The foam textures are now also available separately. Only the additional colors (green to brown) are currently missing and should be submitted later next week.
If you are familiar with the data structure of mods, you can of course do a breakdown of the terrain textures yourself.
Can the mod Terrain textures for natural water surfaces now be easily removed from a savegame or completely uninstalled?
If you have already used colors other than the standard colors (normal/tropical) in a savegame, you should either wait until I upload the remaining textures or you will delete any unnecessary terrain textures (color groups) from the mod yourself. Note that deleting from the mod folder also affects other savegames.
If you have only used the terrain textures with standard colors everywhere, the switch is easy. Download these mods as needed and activate them for a savegame:
Water Textures Temperate/Dry
Water Textures Tropical
Water Textures Foam
At the same time, you can deactivate the Terrain textures for natural water surfaces mod. The terrain textures Water Normal, Water Tropical and Foam are then taken from these three mods. If you load the savegame and there are no previously used water terrain textures missing, you can save the game.
